Book Thingy: #Sad! Doonsebury In The Time of Trump

Gary Trudeau published a book about the Old New Guy when he was still the New Guy in 2018, and the book title was — and still is — #SAD In A Time Of Trump! It has been 8 years since it was published. If you are a masochist, watching and reading the daily news about our public affairs of the day, you might enjoy that book. In school as a child and student, it was told to us sitting there under protest that we needed to be informed and should seek knowledge. Well, nowadays I am unclear what knowledge is. I think the news is absolute malarkey right now.

Well, the 2018 book, #Sad Doonesbury in the Time of Trump, is still spot on. I was thrown off at first because I had thought someone had just bought a new 2025 book for me and left it for me. Instead, it was a book I had forgotten about.

So, I started reading it, thinking it was about the present. I cracked up laughing at how quickly Gray got this new book out in the first few weeks of the Old New Guy’s present thing of governing in 2025. Yet the book is old, and history repeats itself. Many incidents in the book from 2017 are happening again in 2025, right in front of our eyes, which is remarkable, considering the book was published in 2018.

So, one issue is firing federal workers for doing their job as required by law and regulations. In 2018, the Old New Guy fired our safety staff at Wuhan Lab, and that was how COVID was spread by firing staff who were protecting us, the American Citizens. Their job was to make sure that the bat research on COVID followed the necessary procedures to deal with highly contagious experiments. The US Old New Guy’s Administration fired those workers who were protecting us, but because no one was dying, no citizen realized that these people did their jobs. Within months of their transfer, the first cases of COVID-19 were found in China in the town’s open market, where the WUHAN lab was located.

The reason that some in the government today are cut loose is vengeance, and also, having people who are following the law can be a dangerous thing for a person who is notorious for skating around the rules that we all have to follow. So, the message is clear to all government workers: just move along, nothing is happening here. Oh, the body at your feet, we got it!’

So, as Yogi Berra once said, ‘It’s Deja vu all over again.’ We are watching a rerun of the 2017-2020 daily headlines, and the president’s sycophants say everything is fine, just step over the starving person; they are not one of us. In our USA, people claim today’s news is new and improved, but it’s actually old and disappointing. However, tearing down the White House to build a palace may be a little more over the top than the recent past. I cannot dance, and I find it disgraceful that when the Old New Guy dances, whatever he is doing is not dancing. Why does it have to be shown? It’s making old white guys look bad with his dance moves. Now that is White Discrimination.

So, again for the zillionth time, COVID was caused by The Old New Guy firing government workers who were protecting the public in the Wuhan lab, which led to a million Americans dying and worldwide over a billion, yeah, with the B, worldwide. RFK Jr is against vaccines because he claims they cause Autism, despite the scientific and technical evidence to the contrary. Death by Measles is on the rise cowinkydink that the head of the New Guy’s Health Department is against the vaccines? RFK has a history of convincing communities not to take vaccines, and deaths of children are directly linked to his fanaticism. The Feds have cut back on COVID vaccines; however, private insurance is not because when a lot of people get sick, they will be footing the bill.

I’m glad I read #Sad by GB Trudeau, it proves that satire can make you feel better even in the middle of a shitstorm! I don’t know how you can obtain a copy. However, worth the effort.
